Driven by its desire to preserve resources and ensure the longevity of its creations, the Maison incorporates eco-friendly materials whenever possible. Among them, recycled polyester, made from plastic bottle waste, gracefully enhances its collections, reflecting a sincere commitment to the environment.
True to this vision of eco-design rooted in sustainability, Longchamp continues its efforts by combining innovation and responsibility.
In 2021, Longchamp broke new ground with a new recycled version of its iconic Le Pliage Original design. Le Pliage Original & Le Pliage Green are now made only by canvas produced by recycling.
Available in many colours, the body of the bag is made from recycled polyamide, commonly known as nylon. The recycled polyamide that makes up the canvas for the Le Pliage Green comes from diverse sources, including fishing nets, rugs, carpets and industrial waste. It offers a second and more noble life to the materials used (GRS 4.0 Certification).
Le Pliage Original and Le Pliage Green are now made exclusively from recycled canvas.
Some of the key frames of the Longchamp Eyewear Collection are made with plant-based resin. Plant-Based Resin is made from castor-bean oil, a cleaner alternative to standard petroleum-based plastics.
Throughout its portfolio, Longchamp is introducing lightweight and durable quality frames made with at least 45% plant-based resin. The process begins when the castor plants are harvested for their beans. Oil is pressed from the beans and turned into pellets which are melted and injected into eyewear frames.
Unique to Longchamp, this design masterfully combines creativity, technological innovation and recycled material.
The body of the bag and the strap are both made from recycled polyester. For each model, there is an equivalent number of recycled plastic bottles (10 bottles for the smallest models and 24 bottles for the largest). Similarly, the sublimation letter printing process requires no water consumption, which is unusual in the industry.
One of the founding acts of the Maison is the search for solutions through innovation and creativity. Thus, Longchamp’s first product, the leather-covered pipe, was an innovation in itself, and its unique design is what made it successful.
Every day, the Maison teams test, optimize, and develop new innovative projects. These efforts are now focused on researching processes or raw materials that help minimize the ecological impact of products. For instance, for the Le Pliage bag, Longchamp teams have developed a new canvas made on both sides from recycled polyester, based on plastic waste, notably recycled bottles.
