Artistic partnerships have been a fundamental part of the Maison's history since 1948. These initiatives are part of Longchamp's ongoing commitment to supporting innovative designers, establishing forward-thinking collaborations that bolster visibility for exceptional talents. One example demonstrating this commitment is the purchase of artworks displayed in its boutiques, making art more accessible.
For Milan Design Week 2025, this collaboration takes on an all-new dimension. Pierre Renart presents two exclusive designs: a Wave leather bench and a set of eight unique Ruban leather chairs. On display in Longchamp's flagship store in Milan from 7 April to 13 May, coinciding with the world's biggest design event, these pieces mark a turning point in his career: this is the first time he has combined wood and leather, something he has aspired to achieve for a long time. It is also marks the first time that the Maison will be offering furniture for sale in one of its boutiques, despite its penchant for design already being clear to see thanks, in particular, to its purchase of a number of stylish pieces over the years, including ones by Pierre Paulin.
Graduating top of his class from the École Boulle in 2011, Pierre Renart has established himself as a master of design and contemporary woodwork. Combining traditional skills with modern technology, he creates timeless, sculptural wooden furnishings. His state-of-the-art workshop enables him to work on large-scale projects, sourcing wood from local French sawmills. The elegant, curvaceous marvels he creates have found their way into prestigious collections, including those of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and the Mobilier National.
Pierre Renart's relationship with Longchamp began in 2021, when Longchamp commissioned him to create bespoke pieces for its boutiques, designed in the spirit of a Parisian apartment. These include variations of his famous Wave coffee table, which can be seen in the Regent Street flagship store in London.
Journalist Peggy Frey and the Maison's artistic director, Sophie Delafontaine, visited Pierre's workshop in Blois to learn more about his creative process. Made from American walnut and upholstered with supple cowhide from Longchamp, these pieces preserve Pierre Renart's fluid, organic aesthetic. His meticulous technique of assembling thin sheets of wood gives the furnishings something of a constant motion, defying the typically stiff, rigid quality of the material. The bench will be upholstered in cashew-coloured leather, while each chair will feature leather in eight different shades, including the Maison's signature Heritage green and Lumière green tones. Despite the combination of materials used, these pieces have a remarkable fluidity and visual lightness about them.
